COUNTRY CLUB OF NORTH CAROLINA
🇺🇸 Pinehurst, NC, USA
Designed by Ellis Maples, Willard Byrd
Dogwood at Country Club of North Carolina embodies the understated grace and challenge of Pinehurst golf, a testament to thoughtful design rather than overt spectacle. Carved through the region's signature rolling sandhills, the course, while not demanding prodigious length, requires strategic thinking and well-placed shots more so than brute power. The pines and wiregrass frame each hole, creating a visually pleasing and subtly penal landscape.
Willard Byrd's original design has been respectfully refined over the years, ensuring Dogwood maintains its classic feel while subtly adapting to the modern game. The greens, subtly contoured and often guarded by strategically placed bunkers, reward intelligent approaches. Its design is one that makes you consider more than just the distance, forcing players to carefully consider angles.
Dogwood represents a pure golf experience, one appreciated by a membership known for its deep love of the game and its respect for tradition. This is where locals come to play in large numbers - they value the experience over the glitz. It’s a course where the camaraderie of the game flourishes, and where a post-round drink on the porch feels as essential as a well-struck iron shot.
Reviews
A very nice club. The course has 2 great stretches (2-5, and 13-18) with a lot of good in between. While water is present throughout much of the water is not too troublesome. Greens are very fast and you need to keep it below the hole.
