DIAMOND BAR GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Diamond Bar, CA, USA
Designed by William Francis Bell
Diamond Bar Golf Course is a municipal facility located in the San Gabriel Valley foothills of Southern California, designed by William F. Bell and opened in 1962. Bell, a prolific California architect who shaped dozens of public courses throughout the state during the mid-20th century, created a layout that works with the area's rolling terrain and natural drainage patterns. The course serves the suburban community of Diamond Bar, positioned roughly thirty miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
The routing takes advantage of elevation changes characteristic of the region's foothill topography, with several holes playing uphill or downhill and offering views across the valley. Mature trees frame many fairways, and the design reflects Bell's practical approach to public golf—straightforward holes that accommodate a range of skill levels while requiring thoughtful club selection and course management. Water features come into play on select holes, adding variety to the strategic demands.
As a city-owned facility, Diamond Bar Golf Course functions as an accessible option for residents of the eastern Los Angeles County area. The course has served local golfers for more than six decades, providing a venue for recreational play, junior programs, and community events. Its longevity reflects both its role in the regional public golf infrastructure and Bell's ability to create durable designs suited to their settings and intended audiences.
Reviews
Not going on anyone’s bucket list but decent track. Technically an LA muni, they had to redo a few holes due to freeway expansion which feels noticeable compared to the rest of the course. Decent SoCal golf.
Pleasant muni. Very good staff. Especially the F&B folks. The course has a bit of a split personality. It tries to be a little links-y in spots but parkland-y in others. There are a few bad holes (2,3,4) but the rest are a treat. Nachos are solid.
