DEVILS RIDGE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Holly Springs, NC, USA
Designed by John LaFoy

Devils Ridge Golf Club sits in Holly Springs, a rapidly growing suburb southwest of Raleigh in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina. Designed by John LaFoy and opened in the early 2000s, the course serves a residential community that developed during the area's significant population expansion. LaFoy, a North Carolina-based architect, has designed several courses across the state and typically works within the rolling Piedmont terrain characteristic of this region.
The layout takes advantage of natural elevation changes common to the Carolina Piedmont, with fairways that move through wooded corridors of pine and hardwood. Water features appear on multiple holes, and the design incorporates both strategic bunkering and natural hazards that require course management rather than pure length. The routing provides variety in hole lengths and shot requirements, with risk-reward opportunities balanced against more straightforward holes.
As a semi-private facility serving both members and daily-fee players, Devils Ridge functions as a neighborhood amenity while remaining accessible to the broader Raleigh-area golfing public. The course reflects the style of community golf development common to North Carolina's suburban growth areas during its era of construction, offering a playable championship-length layout with modern conditioning standards and practice facilities that serve golfers across skill levels.
Reviews
This is a really good layout. Lots of changes in elevation. Being in a neighbourhood there is out of bounds left and right on most holes so you need to drive it straight. The greens really struggle in the Summer heat, bent grass can’t handle it. The cart paths are poor, there are sections on nearly every one that need to be replaced. General conditioning is not great, lots of bare patches everywhere, symptomatic of a course owned by an investment company who just want to make extract as much money as they can with minimal investment put back in. Bar and restaurant are lovely places with a nice atmosphere.
