DEVIL'S PULPIT GOLF ASSOCIATION
🇨🇦 Caledon Village, Ontario, CA
Designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan

Devil's Pulpit occupies a dramatic ravine landscape in the Caledon Hills northwest of Toronto, where Dr. Michael Hurdzan routed eighteen holes through a former aggregate quarry in the early 1990s. The course takes its name from a distinctive rock formation on the property and makes full use of the site's extreme elevation changes, with holes playing along cliff edges, down into the quarry floor, and back up through dense hardwood forest. The routing creates a theatrical golf experience defined by vertical movement and visual contrast between exposed rock faces and tree-lined corridors.
The design features significant elevation changes throughout, with several holes requiring substantial climbs or descents between green and tee. Hurdzan incorporated the quarry's existing topography into strategic decisions, using rock outcroppings as natural hazards and framing elements. The course plays through varied terrain that shifts from open, links-like areas on higher ground to enclosed, parkland-style holes in the valleys. Water features appear on multiple holes, often positioned at the base of elevation drops.
Devil's Pulpit operates as a private club and has developed a reputation for conditioning and exclusivity within the Ontario golf market. The facility includes a companion course, Devil's Paintbrush, also designed by Hurdzan and located on adjacent property. Together, the two courses form a thirty-six-hole complex that attracts members seeking championship-length golf in a naturalistic setting within reasonable proximity to the Greater Toronto Area.
