DESERT PINES GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Las Vegas, NV, USA
Designed by Perry Dye

Desert Pines Golf Club occupies a distinctive position in the Las Vegas golf landscape as a Perry Dye design that departs dramatically from the desert-style layouts common to the region. Opened in 1997, the course was conceived as a Carolina Lowcountry-style layout transplanted into the Nevada desert, complete with thousands of pine trees imported to create an environment more reminiscent of the Southeast than the Southwest. This thematic approach makes Desert Pines an anomaly among Las Vegas public courses, offering a playing experience that contrasts sharply with the native desert vegetation and exposed terrain found at most area facilities.
The routing incorporates water features on several holes and uses the mature pine plantings to define fairway corridors and frame approach shots. The design reflects Perry Dye's work during a period when he was establishing his own identity separate from the family legacy of Pete Dye, though certain strategic elements and green complexes show the influence of that design lineage. The course plays as a municipal facility accessible to daily-fee players, providing a relatively affordable option in a market known for resort pricing.
Desert Pines serves primarily as a local and visitor-friendly venue rather than a tournament site or championship layout. The pine-lined character and water hazards create a different set of challenges than the target golf typical of desert courses, requiring players to shape shots through tree-lined corridors. The maintenance of such extensive non-native vegetation in the desert climate represents an ongoing commitment that distinguishes the property's identity and playing conditions.
Reviews
From the same people that brought you the now closed and covered by a subdivision Royal Links Desert Pines is Closing to build housing as well but it was an engineering feat worth seeing how they fit that course into a few city blocks and with mounding and trees made it seem like you were somewhere besides Vegas. Sad to see it go fun and uniquely Las Vegas. Go play it before it closes if you can.
