CYPRESS LAKES RESORT
🇦🇺 Pokolbin Hunter Valley, New South Wales, AU
Designed by Steve Smyers

Cypress Lakes, nestled in the heart of the Hunter Valley wine region, is as much a journey through viticultural history as it is a round of golf. Carved from rolling vineyard land, the course presents a modern design that challenges with its strategic bunkering and undulating greens. Instead of raw length, Cypress Lakes favors those who can shape shots and manage the prevailing breezes that sweep across the valley. Doglegs demand thoughtful club selection, and errant tee shots are often penalized by thick, native grasses.
Designed to blend seamlessly with its surroundings, Cypress Lakes offers panoramic views of the Brokenback Mountain Range from nearly every hole. It is not known to be among the country’s most decorated courses, its charm lies in its accessibility and relaxed atmosphere. A post-round glass of Semillon on the clubhouse terrace is considered as much a part of the experience as the golf itself, embodying the laid-back spirit of the Hunter Valley.
While Cypress Lakes hasn't hosted major championships, it remains a popular venue for regional amateur events and corporate outings, fostering a community of passionate golfers who appreciate the blend of sporting challenge and scenic beauty. The club is beloved by locals and wine country tourists alike.
