CHAMPIONS GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Houston, TX, USA
Designed by Ralph Plummer

Cypress Creek at Champions Golf Club, nestled in Houston's Champions area, remains a testament to Jack Burke Jr.'s vision for a true championship-caliber layout. This classic Texas course, a product of the early 1960s, traverses rolling parkland terrain dotted with mature hardwoods and meandering creeks, demanding strategic play and rewarding calculated risk-taking.
The course, designed by Ralph Plummer, favors those who can shape the ball, with subtle doglegs and well-placed bunkers guarding deceptively large greens. While lacking the notoriety of its sibling course, Cypress Creek has quietly challenged generations of Houston golfers with its demanding setup and subtle nuances.
Champions Golf Club holds a unique place in golf lore as the site of the 1969 U.S. Open, a testament to Burke's ambition and the club's commitment to the game's highest standards. The club maintains a vibrant membership, renowned for its deep-rooted passion for golf and a commitment to preserving the traditions of the game. The club is also known for its strong support of junior golf, fostering the next generation of players.
Reviews
It’s a place I’d dream to join. Everything about the place is perfect if you are a golf NUT.
Club has a friendly vibe, good practice area and awesome locker room. It's not my favorite golf course but there's some fun to be had. Excellent condition and if you can ask your host about seeing Mr Burke's office, do it!
Got to play the Texas Mid Am here in 2025 and I loved it. It’s an outlandishly pure golf experience and a club shaped by the late Jackie Burke. The Cypress Course is a beast…long and challenging. If they let the Bermuda rough grow up a but it becomes extremely difficult but fair. The members are awesome and were very welcoming to us taking over their course for a few days.
