MANISTEE NATIONAL GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Manistee, MI, USA
Designed by Jerry Matthews

Cutters Ridge is one of two eighteen-hole courses at Manistee National Golf Club, located in the forested terrain of northwestern lower Michigan near the shores of Lake Michigan. Designed by Jerry Matthews, the course takes its name from the logging heritage of the Manistee region, which was a major timber center in the nineteenth century. The layout occupies rolling, wooded land typical of this part of Michigan, where elevation changes and stands of hardwoods and pines shape the playing corridors.
Matthews routed the course through natural contours, incorporating the area's topography into the strategic design. Fairways move through tree-lined corridors with enough width to reward accurate driving while penalizing wayward shots. The greens feature modest undulation, and bunkers are positioned to challenge approach shots and frame landing areas. Water comes into play on several holes, adding variety to the tactical demands.
Manistee National operates as a semi-private facility, offering access to both members and daily-fee players. The club serves golfers visiting the Manistee area, which draws seasonal tourism for its lakefront setting and outdoor recreation. Cutters Ridge provides a straightforward test of golf in a quiet, natural environment, appealing to players seeking a round in Michigan's forested interior without the formality of a private club. The course complements the club's second layout, offering variety for those spending multiple days in the region.
