CUMBERLAND TRAIL GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Pataskala, OH, USA
Designed by Dana Fry, Dr. Michael Hurdzan

Cumberland Trail Golf Course opened in 1999 in Pataskala, a suburb east of Columbus, Ohio. The course was designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, an Ohio-based partnership known for creating championship-caliber public courses throughout the Midwest. Their design philosophy emphasizes strategic variety and playability across different skill levels while respecting the natural landscape.
The property features rolling terrain typical of central Ohio, with elevation changes that provide visual interest and strategic considerations throughout the round. The routing incorporates mature trees, natural water features, and bunkering that frames landing areas and greens. Hurdzan and Fry's work here reflects their characteristic attention to turf conditions and green complexes that reward thoughtful approach play.
Cumberland Trail serves as a daily-fee facility accessible to the greater Columbus golfing community. The course has hosted various regional amateur competitions and qualifiers over the years, contributing to the area's competitive golf landscape. As a public course designed by architects with significant championship credentials, it offers central Ohio golfers a test that balances challenge with playability.
The facility includes practice areas and amenities typical of modern public golf courses in the region. Its location in Pataskala positions it within the eastern Columbus suburban corridor, where residential development and golf course construction expanded significantly during the 1990s.
Reviews
Cumberland Trail offers some of the most true greens that central Ohio has to offer in the public setting. A few cool holes that are decorated with a plethora of cookie cutter homes that are a solid human wing span apart. The course is well maintained, but lacks character. You’ll find that true fans of this course are 14 way cart bag users, bad birdie golf shoppers and the “Stoolies”. In all seriousness, the course is solid and well maintained, but certainly overrated / overhyped by their clientele. Still would reccomend playing the course, but it is not life changing like some may argue. Also, has a fantastic warm up putting area with mini holes to really test your putting. Perhaps my favorite part.
I think this course is very fun and a great challenge. It is always windy and the greens are rolling which creates a tough but fun round. I used to enjoy going here a lot more until recently. Recently it has become way over priced and crowded which has caused the course to get beat up and the pace of play to become horrific.
