CRYSTAL LAKE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Hampton, GA, USA
Designed by Denis Griffiths
Crystal Lake Golf and Country Club stands as a testament to traditional Southern golf, a stalwart of the Hampton, Georgia, landscape where generations have honed their game. Carved from the rolling hills characteristic of the region south of Atlanta, the course, while not widely lauded nationally, offers a stern but fair test to its loyal membership.
Designed in the late 20th century, Crystal Lake eschews dramatic elevation changes, instead favoring subtle undulations and strategic bunkering to challenge players. Mature hardwoods line the fairways, demanding accuracy off the tee, while the bentgrass greens reward precise approach shots. The course plays longer than its yardage suggests, with a mix of doglegs and strategically placed hazards punishing errant drives.
While Crystal Lake hasn’t hosted major championships, it remains a vibrant hub for local competition and camaraderie. The membership, drawn largely from the surrounding community, are known for their deep appreciation of the game and the club's relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. And like many historic courses, the club is known for its famous chicken finger basket, a staple since the club opened in 1990.
