CROOKED TREE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Petoskey, MI, USA
Designed by Arthur Hills, Harry Bowers
Crooked Tree Golf Club is where Northern Michigan golf began its serious pursuit of pleasure. Carved into the bluffs overlooking Little Traverse Bay near Petoskey, this course is a compelling, if not celebrated, study in strategic play.
Designed in the early days of course architecture, Crooked Tree presents a compelling narrative of Golden Age ingenuity meeting challenging, undulating terrain. The course itself is a compact layout where navigating doglegs and thoughtfully placed bunkers becomes paramount. Errant tee shots can often find themselves nestled amongst the property’s namesake crooked trees, demanding recovery shots and a keen understanding of angles.
While not a regular stop on any professional tour, Crooked Tree holds a special place in the hearts of its tight-knit membership. The club is known for its unpretentious atmosphere and for fostering a strong sense of community. Many a round concludes with spirited debate on the patio, overlooking the glorious views of the bay – often accompanied by stories of near misses and fortunate bounces from the day’s play. The membership particularly cherish the club’s rich history and the camaraderie found within its unassuming clubhouse walls.
Reviews
Certainly the best views of any of the Boyne courses. A few cool holes but the layout is a bit lacking. Some very similar holes. Conditions weren’t as good as the other ones when I played.
