SEABROOK ISLAND RESORT
🇺🇸 Johns Island, SC, USA
Designed by Robert Trent Jones
Crooked Oaks is one of two Robert Trent Jones designs at Seabrook Island Resort, a coastal community located on Johns Island near Charleston, South Carolina. Opened in 1981, the course represents Jones's mature design philosophy applied to South Carolina Lowcountry terrain. The layout occupies land characterized by maritime forest, marshland edges, and the flat-to-gently-rolling topography typical of barrier island settings. Live oaks draped with Spanish moss frame many holes, giving the course its name and establishing a distinctly regional atmosphere.
Jones routed Crooked Oaks to incorporate natural water features and wetlands into the strategic design, with several holes playing along or across tidal marsh areas. The course measures over 6,800 yards from the championship tees and features the architect's characteristic design elements: substantial bunkering, elevated greens with pronounced contours, and strategic demands that reward accurate iron play. Water comes into play on numerous holes, both as lateral hazards and as visual elements that define landing areas and approach angles.
Seabrook Island Resort operates both Crooked Oaks and its companion Ocean Winds course in a resort setting that attracts visiting golfers alongside property owners and club members. The courses serve a mixed population of seasonal residents, vacationers, and Charleston-area golfers. The Lowcountry setting provides a backdrop of coastal ecology and wildlife, with the courses situated minutes from the Atlantic Ocean and within the broader Charleston golf market.
