CRANBERRY VALLEY GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Harwich, MA, USA
Designed by Brian Silva, Geoffrey Cornish
Cranberry Valley Golf Course opened in 1974 as a municipal facility serving the town of Harwich on Cape Cod's southern shore. Geoffrey Cornish, the prolific New England architect who shaped dozens of accessible public courses across the region, designed the original layout. Brian Silva later contributed renovations that refined the course while maintaining its character as an approachable daily-fee option in a resort area where private clubs dominate the premium golf landscape.
The course occupies rolling terrain typical of the outer Cape, with elevation changes that are modest but meaningful in a region known for relatively flat topography. Pine and oak forests frame many holes, and the routing incorporates natural sandy areas and wetlands that recall the cranberry bogs historically common to this part of Massachusetts. The design emphasizes strategic variety over length, with holes that reward accuracy and course management rather than pure power.
Cranberry Valley serves both year-round Cape Cod residents and seasonal visitors, functioning as one of the more established public options in the mid-Cape area. The course maintains a reputation for conditioning that exceeds typical municipal standards, and its accessibility makes it a regular venue for local amateur competitions and charity events. The clubhouse offers straightforward amenities suited to its public mission.
The layout provides a representative example of Cornish's design philosophy: golf that accommodates a range of skill levels while presenting enough strategic interest to engage better players. It remains a practical choice for golfers seeking a legitimate test in a region where tee times at premium facilities can be difficult to secure.
Reviews
Really cool course, good layout
The pace of play is pretty bad. The conditions are great, the greens are a little beat from getting so much play but it’s expected. Only downside besides pace is the bunkers. They are awful especially for being on a giant sandbar somehow they have no sand. 16 17 18 are a tough, and fun finishing trio especially with the wind kicked up a notch
