CRANBERRY HIGHLANDS GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Cranberry Township, PA, USA
Designed by Bill Love
Cranberry Highlands, a public course carved into the rolling hills of Cranberry Township, carries the spirit of accessible golf within the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Its design leans toward a modern parkland style, demanding strategic play through tree-lined fairways and undulating greens. The course doesn't necessarily demand raw power but instead favors shot placement and course management, rewarding golfers who can navigate doglegs and strategically placed bunkers.
Designed by renowned architect Dick Wilson, Cranberry Highlands opened in 2002, quickly establishing itself as a popular venue for local tournaments and recreational play. Wilson's approach provides a diverse test for golfers of all skill levels, but is noted for its playability given its rolling hills. It caters to beginners and families, while still requiring more advanced players to bring their A-game and course management to score well.
While Cranberry Highlands hasn't hosted any major professional championships, it is an important part of the local golf community and scene. Its well-maintained facilities and convenient location contribute to its reputation as a great option for golfers in western Pennsylvania. Locals celebrate a certain sandwich at the clubhouse - the turkey club - as a staple after a round.
Reviews
Beautiful fun course, although its packed with golfers nearly every minute of the day. Somehow the fairways are still always pristine, albeit slow/soft. Excellent public course choice for anyone visiting from out of town. For skilled golfers it’s not too challenging (but with enough challenge to always keep it interesting) while the fescue can squeeze some mid-high hdcp golfers — but still playable for everyone.
Don’t let other bad reviews steer you clear of cranberry. While tee times can be hard to acquire for non cranberry township residents, it’s extremely hard to have a bad day on this course. Reasonable priced at $70 this is one of the few public tracks in the area that has survived the wild summer and remains is good condition. The greens roll a tick or 2 slower than most but the collection of par 4s provide a variety that few public courses in pittsburgh rival. Upwards of 4 tee boxes are present on nearly every hole and the constant moving of the teeing areas mean you are almost always playing a different distance. An engaging par 70 that’s in consistent good shape under $100 for the public… enough said.
