COZUMEL COUNTRY CLUB
🇲🇽 Cozumel, Quintana Roo, MX
Designed by Jack Nicklaus

Cozumel Country Club occupies a distinctive position as the only regulation golf course on the island of Cozumel, located off the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula in the Caribbean Sea. Jack Nicklaus designed the layout to work within the island's flat, tropical terrain and limestone-based topography characteristic of the region. The course navigates through native jungle vegetation, cenotes, and mangrove areas that define the local landscape.
The routing takes advantage of the natural features found throughout the property, incorporating the cenotes—water-filled sinkholes formed in the porous limestone bedrock—as both strategic hazards and visual elements. The flat terrain typical of Cozumel means elevation change comes primarily through manufactured mounding and the strategic placement of bunkers and water features. Prevailing Caribbean winds, particularly the trade winds that sweep across the island, factor significantly into club selection and shot strategy throughout the round.
The course serves both the local community and the substantial tourist population that visits Cozumel, primarily known as a cruise ship destination and diving center. The layout provides a golf option for visitors to the island who might otherwise focus exclusively on the marine activities for which Cozumel is internationally recognized. The tropical setting and island location create playing conditions distinct from mainland Mexican courses, with the surrounding jungle and coastal proximity defining the overall character of the property.
