KIAWAH ISLAND GOLF RESORT
🇺🇸 Kiawah Island, SC, USA
Designed by Gary Player
Cougar Point, threading through the heart of Kiawah Island, carries the spirit of its Lowcountry setting. Designed by Gary Player in 1996, the course underwent a significant renovation by the esteemed architect, Rees Jones, in 2017, which reshaped the narrative while honoring the original intent. It isn’t a storied past of a grand designer nor a US Open, but an ideal course that fits its location, perfect for a relaxing round.
The terrain is a classic coastal blend: generous fairways lined with native grasses and strategically placed lagoons that test both length and precision. The course presents a balanced challenge, with some holes favoring a draw while others demand a fade, rewarding strategic shot-making rather than brute strength. One might even find the conditions favorable for a low round, if the wind cooperates.
Cougar Point offers a convivial atmosphere that reflects the charm of Kiawah Island itself. After the round, one can enjoy one of the many fresh local seafood dishes that will have you craving more. And with the Atlantic just steps away, the experience extends beyond the 18th green.
Reviews
Just such an awesome backdrop
A really fun course that has some easy holes, some funky holes, some great marsh views, and cool green complexes. My favorite at Kiawah outside the Ocean.
