COSTABAJA GOLF CLUB & RESORT
🇲🇽 La Paz, Baja California Sur, MX
Designed by Gary Player
CostaBaja Golf Club sits on the eastern shore of the Baja California peninsula near La Paz, where the desert landscape meets the Sea of Cortez. Gary Player designed this course as part of a resort development that opened in the mid-2000s, routing the layout along dramatic coastal terrain with several holes playing directly beside the water. The setting combines the arid character of Baja—cactus, scrub vegetation, and rocky outcroppings—with views across the sea toward the mountains of mainland Mexico.
The routing takes advantage of the property's natural elevation changes and coastline exposure. Several holes occupy clifftop positions above the water, while others play through arroyos and around desert landforms. Player incorporated the native desert flora into the design, leaving much of the surrounding landscape in its natural state. The course features wide fairways typical of desert layouts, where accuracy off the tee matters less than strategic positioning for approach shots to greens protected by bunkers and native areas.
La Paz serves as the capital of Baja California Sur and offers access to sport fishing, diving, and other marine activities in the Sea of Cortez. CostaBaja functions as a resort amenity within a mixed-use development that includes a marina and residential components. The course provides a golf option for visitors to the region who combine play with the area's coastal recreation opportunities.
