INNISBROOK RESORT AND GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Palm Harbor, FL, USA
Designed by Larry Packard, Roger Packard

Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course, carved from the rolling terrain of Palm Harbor, Florida, is where PGA Tour dreams are tested and often broken. Architect Lawrence Packard's 1970s design, a departure from typical Florida flatness, unfolds across heavily wooded landscape with significant elevation changes, a rarity in the region. Tight fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and water hazards demand shrewd course management rather than pure power. Don't be surprised to see tour professionals miss greens here because the bunkering and water placements provide great challenge.
As the annual host of the Valspar Championship, Copperhead has witnessed its share of dramatic moments. Players who have been crowned champions have had to battle through the famed "Snake Pit" – the treacherous trio of holes 16, 17, and 18 – a closing stretch known to decide fortunes. The course's difficulty, combined with the tournament's history, elevates its status beyond many of its Florida peers.
While not necessarily considered a major championship venue, Copperhead stands as a stern test for even the world's best. Members and guests alike relish the challenge, along with the resort's storied history of hosting celebrities and golf legends, including a few famous for enjoying the course's signature conch chowder between nines.
Reviews
Tough, but quite fair if you're playing the correct tee box. Definitely the gem of Innisbrook and cool walking in the paths of the Tour pros that play it yearly.
Played AJGA event here back in the day. Sprayed my driver because I took a free club from TaylorMade and they wanted me to play it for the week…ha. 16 is an awesome hole but wouldn’t go out of my way to play this one.
Look… Copperhead is one of my favorite test of golf, and it’s amazing that “Tampa” gets to host a tour event, but the fact that they let the conditions of the Bermuda go to crap since they just overseed everywhere for the tour is pretty sad. The bunkers are awful since they only care about prepping them the weeks before the event. People just don’t care about the course… and that makes me sad. Ball marks everywhere, just take the time to fix your mark +1 and the world will be a better place. With all that being said… definitely worth playing once. If you are a scratch or +, or have a buddy who “wants to go pro” go play the tips and see what happens
A really tough Championship test. A great use of a rather flat piece of land. Probably the best collection of Par 5’s that I’ve seen. Despite being so close to the Gulf, it really has the forest feel of an Augusta. Hole 6 (Sidewinder) is my favorite.
Brian’s 32nd birthday played Copperhead and Island. Steakhouse had good food!
