CONTRA COSTA COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Pleasant Hill, CA, USA
Designed by Vernon Macan, Robert Muir Graves

Contra Costa Country Club sits in Pleasant Hill, a suburban community in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. The course was designed by Vernon Macan and later redesigned by Robert Muir Graves, a prominent Northern California architect whose career spanned much of the twentieth century. Graves, known for his work throughout California and the western United States, brought his characteristic attention to strategic variety and playability to the layout.
The course occupies rolling terrain typical of the inland valleys east of the Berkeley Hills. The routing takes advantage of natural elevation changes and mature tree growth that frames fairways and defines playing corridors. The design emphasizes position and course management rather than pure length, with doglegs and elevation shifts requiring thoughtful club selection and shot placement.
Contra Costa Country Club serves as a traditional private club for the Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek communities. The membership includes families and individuals from the surrounding suburbs, and the club maintains the social and recreational functions common to established Bay Area country clubs. The facility includes dining and event spaces that complement the golf course, supporting the club's role as a gathering place for its members across generations.
Reviews
A true golfers club! A recent redesign made Contra Costa one of the jewels of the East Bay. It’s a rolling hooked links course where the ball can be played in the air and on the ground. This place reaks golf! The practice facility is second to none spacious and full of targets. They also have one of the most intelligent half way houses ever with quick on the go choices as well as a grill that you can call from the 8th tee. The entire club is centered towards a great golfing experience.
