COUNTY SLIGO GOLF CLUB
🇮🇪 Sligo, Sligo, IE
Designed by C. H. Alison, Harry S. Colt

County Sligo Golf Club, known locally as Rosses Point, occupies a dramatic stretch of linksland on the Rosses Point peninsula in northwest Ireland. The course sits beneath the distinctive profile of Benbulben mountain, with views across Sligo Bay and the Atlantic. Harry Colt designed the original layout in 1927, with C.H. Alison contributing to the design work. The routing makes full use of the natural duneland, moving through valleys and over ridges that define classic links golf in this part of Ireland.
The course measures over 7,100 yards from the championship tees and presents the full range of links challenges: firm, fast-running fairways, deep pot bunkers, and greens that demand precision in the coastal wind. The opening holes move out toward the sea, while the inward nine works back through the dunes with several memorable par threes and strategic two-shot holes. The 17th, a long par four called "Gallery," plays along the shore and typically into the prevailing wind, serving as one of the sternest tests on the course.
County Sligo has hosted numerous Irish championships and regional amateur events over the decades, establishing its reputation as a competitive venue. The club maintains a traditional members' culture while welcoming visitors who seek authentic links golf away from the more heavily trafficked courses in other parts of Ireland. The setting, with Benbulben as backdrop and the Atlantic defining the western edge, gives the course a distinctive sense of place within Irish golf.
