CLOVERNOOK COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Cincinnati, OH, USA
Designed by Theodore Moreau, William Langford

Clovernook, a Cincinnati institution, quietly whispers tales of hickory shafts and persimmon woods, its history entwined with the city's early golfing elite. Carved into the rolling hills of the northern suburbs, the course presents a classic parkland challenge, rewarding strategic play over brute force. Subtle elevation changes, tree-lined fairways that reward the strategic player, and deceptively quick greens define the experience. It favors those who can work the ball right to left, with several doglegs demanding precisely that.
Herbert Strong, a prominent figure in the Golden Age of golf course design, laid out the original Clovernook course. His routing takes full advantage of the natural contours, creating a layout that feels both timeless and challenging. While the course hasn't hosted any major professional championships, it remains a respected test for accomplished amateurs in the region.
Clovernook occupies a unique position, treasured by its membership for its unpretentious atmosphere and commitment to the traditions of the game. The club’s modest nature is belied by the fierce competition fostered within its gates during member tournaments, most notably for the coveted Clovernook Cup, a club tradition dating back to the 1920s. This tournament is an event that embodies the spirit of the club – spirited competition steeped in camaraderie.
And after the round, the clubhouse, though understated, serves up a mean Montgomery Inn-inspired BBQ rib, a local favorite that's rumored to settle more matches than any well-placed drive.
