Clearwater Bay at Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club

Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club occupies a dramatic hillside site on the Sai Kung Peninsula in Hong Kong's New Territories, overlooking the South China Sea. The original 18 holes were designed by Japanese architects T. Sawai and A. Furukawa and opened in 1982. Australian golfer Peter Thomson, a five-time Open Championship winner who became a prolific course architect, later collaborated with Ross Perrett on a redesign that enhanced the layout's strategic qualities and refined its bunkering and green complexes.

The course plays across steep, undulating terrain with significant elevation changes throughout the round. Many holes feature dramatic downhill tee shots and approach shots that must account for both the slope and prevailing winds coming off the water. The routing takes advantage of the natural topography to create memorable vistas across Clearwater Bay and the surrounding islands, particularly on holes along the clifftop sections of the property.

Clearwater Bay has hosted professional events on the Asian Tour and remains one of Hong Kong's most prominent private clubs. The layout demands accurate ball-striking and thoughtful club selection, as the combination of elevation, wind exposure, and firm conditions can make distance control challenging. The club's facilities include practice areas and a clubhouse that serves both golf and country club functions for its membership.
