STONEBRIDGE RANCH COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 McKinney, TX, USA
Designed by Arthur Hills
The Chisholm Course at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas, opened in 1988 as part of a master-planned community development north of Dallas. Arthur Hills designed the layout to work with the gently rolling terrain characteristic of North Texas, incorporating natural creeks and stands of mature trees into a routing that balances strategic shot-making with playability for a range of skill levels. Hills, known for his work across the Sun Belt during the 1980s and 1990s, created a course that reflects the regional landscape while providing definition through mounding and water features.
The course measures over 7,000 yards from the championship tees and features Bermuda grass fairways and bentgrass greens. Water comes into play on several holes, and the layout includes both risk-reward opportunities and straightforward holes that reward accurate iron play. The design emphasizes positioning off the tee, with fairway bunkers and strategic angles that favor players who think their way around the course rather than relying solely on distance.
Stonebridge Ranch operates as a private club serving the McKinney residential community. The Chisholm Course shares the property with a second eighteen-hole layout, the Dye Course, designed by Pete Dye. Together, the two courses provide members with contrasting design philosophies and playing experiences. The club includes traditional country club amenities and serves as a focal point for the surrounding neighborhood, which has grown substantially since the course opened during the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex expansion of the late twentieth century.
