CHERRY BLOSSOM GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Georgetown, KY, USA
Designed by Clyde Johnston
Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club, carved into the rolling bluegrass of Georgetown, Kentucky, stands as a testament to early 21st-century course design, subtly embracing the surrounding horse country's serene beauty. The course, while not steeped in championship pedigree, boasts a layout that favors a strategic, rather than brute-force, approach.
Architect Ron Garl skillfully utilized the land's natural contours, presenting golfers with wide fairways that belie the challenge lurking in the well-guarded, subtly undulating greens. A premium is placed on thoughtful club selection and precise iron play; errant shots are often penalized not by thick rough, but by strategically placed bunkers and water hazards that demand respect without intimidation.
The club itself fosters a close-knit community. While it may lack the prestige of a major championship venue, Cherry Blossom provides a welcoming atmosphere. A fixture amongst members is the Friday night seafood buffet, a local draw that embodies the club's unpretentious commitment to camaraderie.
Reviews
Hands down the best course in Georgetown, but comes with a hefty price tag. The front nine is pretty standard, and hole 8 is always a challenge for me. The back nine brings quite a bit more water and tree trouble into play, and holes 12-17-18 are always fun. The course is scorable if you drive the ball well… which I usually don’t. Range and putting area are my only gripe.
