CHASKA TOWN COURSE
🇺🇸 Chaska, MN, USA
Designed by Arthur Hills
Chaska Town Course, a municipal gem nestled within the Twin Cities' southwestern suburbs, delivers a spirited test that belies its public accessibility. Architect Arthur Hills, known for his environmentally conscious designs, sculpted this course from rolling farmland, creating a surprisingly strategic layout that favors creative shot-making over sheer power. The gently undulating fairways, dotted with strategically placed bunkers and punctuated by several meandering creeks, demand thoughtful club selection and precise execution. While the course lacks the dramatic elevation changes of some of its Minnesota counterparts, the subtle nuances of the greens and the prevailing winds off the surrounding plains present a constant challenge.
Chaska Town Course gained national prominence when it hosted the 2006 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, showcasing its playability and conditioning on a national stage. While not typically mentioned among the nation's elite layouts, the course holds a special place in the hearts of local golfers, offering a challenging and affordable round in a picturesque setting. The back nine offers a particularly strong finish, with several demanding par-4s requiring both length and accuracy.
Beyond the course, Chaska Town Course fosters a strong sense of community. Stories abound of impromptu matches amongst regulars and visiting golfers who quickly felt welcome. The clubhouse grill room is a popular gathering spot after a round, often filled with lively post-round analysis and friendly banter. A local favorite is the "Townie Burger," a hearty, no-frills offering that perfectly embodies the course's approachable and unpretentious character.
Reviews
I’ll play it once a year, get my teeth knocked in and go home wondering why I didn’t just play somewhere else that day. It gets way too much credit and I think it’s cause the big boy course up the road gets put as it’s sibling.
Some very good holes, and some forgettable ones. 11 is one of the hardest holes I’ve ever played. Great conditions for a public course.
Great condition, love the front nine. I think most of the back nine is uninspiring to outright not good. Very swampy and penal.
