Charwood Course
West Columbia, SC, USA

Charwood Country Club sits in West Columbia, South Carolina, across the Congaree River from the state capital of Columbia. The course was designed by members of the Lucas family, a name associated with several golf course projects in the Carolinas during the latter half of the twentieth century. The layout occupies rolling terrain typical of the South Carolina midlands, where the Piedmont transitions toward the coastal plain. The routing takes advantage of natural elevation changes and wooded corridors that define individual holes. Mature hardwoods and pines frame fairways, and several holes incorporate water features common to courses built in this region during the development era of suburban country clubs. The design reflects a traditional approach to member play, with strategic bunkering and greens that reward accurate approach shots without excessive length demands. Charwood serves as a private club for the West Columbia and greater Columbia area, providing a venue for member golf and social activities. The course has hosted regional amateur competitions and local club championships over the years. Its location near South Carolina's capital makes it part of a cluster of established clubs that have served the Midlands golf community for several decades, offering a familiar style of tree-lined parkland golf characteristic of the region's country club tradition.

Fun
Hidden gem for its practice areas alone - has a 100 yard hole to practice wedge shots in from fairway and rough as well as the bunkers to two different pin placements. Driving range is mats or grass depending on weather. Fun, easy track to play but pace of play and poor care for tee boxes/greens brings it down dramatically.
