COUNTRY CLUB OF CHARLESTON
🇺🇸 Charleston, SC, USA
Designed by Brian Silva, George Cobb, John LaFoy, Seth Raynor
Charleston's Country Club of Charleston remains a bastion of classic golf, its origins steeped in the traditions of the game's early American expansion. Routed across the lowcountry landscape, the course has a distinct coastal feel and a playability that has stood the test of time. The course is known for its tight fairways and small greens that demand accurate approach shots, favoring players who can control their ball flight in the often-present sea breeze.
Originally designed by Seth Raynor, a protege of Charles Blair Macdonald, the course showcases Raynor's signature geometric green complexes and strategic bunkering. Later enhancements came from Brian Silva, whose work sought to restore and enhance Raynor's original vision, ensuring the course's relevance for modern play.
While the Country Club of Charleston isn’t widely known for hosting professional major championships, it has been a respected venue for significant amateur events, further cementing its position as a competitive course within the region. The club maintains a distinguished membership drawn from the city's social fabric, known for its refined atmosphere and dedication to the traditions of the game. Charleston is a place where golf is celebrated not just for the competition, but for the camaraderie and enduring spirit it fosters.
Reviews
Amazing experience and great membership
Very good test of golf and one of the best clubs to be at in Charleston. Hard to beat a seaside Raynor just 10 minutes away from the best city in the world. Great variety of template holes and can be a real test when the wind is up. Always enjoy playing here and seeing elite talent tear it up at The Azalea.
