CHAPEL HILL GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Mount Vernon, OH, USA
Designed by Barry Serafin
Chapel Hill Golf Course sits in the rolling farmland of Knox County in central Ohio, a few miles northeast of Mount Vernon. Designed by Barry Serafin and opened in the mid-1990s, the course occupies terrain typical of this part of the state—gently undulating land with mature hardwoods framing many holes and open agricultural views beyond. The layout takes advantage of natural elevation changes to create variety in both shot values and scenery, with several holes playing across modest valleys and ridges.
Serafin, an Ohio-based architect who designed numerous courses throughout the Midwest during the 1980s and 1990s, routed the eighteen holes to balance risk and playability for a range of skill levels. The design incorporates traditional strategic elements—doglegs that reward well-placed drives, greens protected by bunkers and natural contours, and water hazards that come into play on select holes. The property's tree-lined corridors and open pasture character give the course a parkland feel common to many Ohio daily-fee facilities of its era.
Chapel Hill serves primarily as a public-access course for the Mount Vernon area and surrounding communities. The facility includes practice areas and a clubhouse typical of regional courses built during this period, offering straightforward golf in a rural setting without pretense. The course provides a familiar experience for central Ohio golfers seeking accessible play amid the region's agricultural landscape.
Reviews
Best value course in all of Ohio. For less than $75 you can get unlimited golf, a cart, 6 drinks, 6 sandwhiches, and 6 snacks. Cannot recommend this course more for a great day with your buddies. One of my favorite days of the year every time I get up there to play 36 with the boys.
