PHOENIX COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Phoenix, AZ, USA
Designed by Harry J. Collis, Tom Lehman
Phoenix Country Club's Championship course occupies a historic site in central Phoenix, where the club was founded in 1899 as one of the oldest country clubs in Arizona. The original layout was designed by Harry J. Collis in the early twentieth century, establishing the course on relatively flat desert terrain that has since matured into a parkland setting with tree-lined fairways. The club underwent significant changes over the decades as Phoenix grew around it, and the course was later redesigned by Tom Lehman, the 1996 Open Championship winner who transitioned into golf course architecture.
The Championship course plays through mature landscaping that provides a contrast to the surrounding Sonoran Desert environment. The routing incorporates water features and strategic bunkering characteristic of Lehman's design approach, which emphasizes playability for a range of skill levels while maintaining challenge from the back tees. The flat topography allows for generous fairways, though mature trees frame many holes and require accuracy on approach shots.
Phoenix Country Club has served as a venue for regional amateur competitions and maintains a traditional membership culture centered on golf, tennis, and social activities. The club's long history in Phoenix places it among the city's established private clubs, and its central location near downtown distinguishes it from many of the resort courses and newer developments in the broader metropolitan area. The Championship course reflects both its early-century origins and its modern updates under Lehman's guidance.

greens were lightning!!
Great Old Track Played it in Jan not to long after Champions Tour Place was perfect Had a lot of fun that day Holes were packed in tight - but were never in another fairway If you get a chance to play don’t turn it down - site of old Phoenix Open
Excellent parkland golf in the desert. Small greens, narrow targets, and plenty of friendly people to meet when you drive it into another fairway. Easy to walk with a great clubhouse and staff. The layout isn’t exactly “exciting”, but not one bad hole, great golf course.
Great classic course.
