PEZULA GOLF CLUB
🇿🇦 Knysna, Western Cape, ZA
Designed by David Dale, Ronald Fream
The Championship Course at Pezula Golf Club occupies a dramatic coastal property on the cliffs above Knysna, along South Africa's Garden Route. Designed by David Dale and Ronald Fream and opened in 2000, the course navigates a varied landscape that includes indigenous forest, rocky outcrops, and elevated plateaus with views across the Knysna Lagoon and Indian Ocean. The routing takes advantage of significant elevation changes, with several holes playing along clifftop edges and others descending into forested valleys.
The layout is characterized by its natural setting within the Garden Route's unique ecosystem, where coastal fynbos vegetation and indigenous trees frame many holes. The course measures over 6,000 meters from the championship tees and presents strategic challenges through its use of natural terrain rather than heavy bunkering. Several holes feature forced carries over ravines or approach shots to greens perched on elevated sites. The par-3 14th hole, which plays from a clifftop tee to a green set against the ocean backdrop, is among the most photographed holes along this stretch of coastline.
Pezula is part of a residential estate development and operates as a private club with resort access for guests staying at the property. The course has hosted regional amateur events and serves as a notable stop for golfers traveling the Garden Route between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.
