COLBERT HILLS GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Manhattan, KS, USA
Designed by Jeff Brauer, Jim Colbert
Colbert Hills Golf Course opened in 2000 on rolling prairie land adjacent to Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. The course was designed by Jeff Brauer in collaboration with Jim Colbert, a former PGA Tour player and Kansas State alumnus who grew up in the area. The design takes advantage of the natural Flint Hills topography, incorporating native grasses, limestone outcroppings, and significant elevation changes uncommon in the region. The property's terrain provides a links-like character in places, with firm, fast conditions and exposed playing corridors.
The routing moves through varied landscapes, from elevated tee shots with expansive views of the surrounding prairie to holes that play through valleys and along ridgelines. Several holes feature dramatic drops from tee to fairway, while others require approach shots to greens perched on hillsides or protected by natural rock formations. The bunkering style reflects the rugged setting, and the native fescue grasses that frame many holes add both visual definition and strategic challenge.
Colbert Hills serves as the home course for Kansas State University's golf programs and hosts regional amateur competitions. The course is open to the public and has developed a reputation as one of the stronger daily-fee facilities in Kansas. Its location on university-owned land and connection to the golf management program at Kansas State give it a distinctive educational mission alongside its recreational role.

The course where I fell in love with golf - wish I could skip class one more time to play it on a random Wednesday.
