BURNHAM AND BERROW GOLF CLUB
🏴 Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, England
Designed by Harry S. Colt

The Championship Course at Burnham and Berrow Golf Club occupies a stretch of linksland on the Somerset coast near the Bristol Channel, where the club was established in 1890. Harry Colt redesigned the course in the 1920s, creating the routing that largely defines the layout today. The links sits on classic duneland terrain with natural undulations, ridges, and valleys characteristic of England's southwest coast. The sandy soil provides firm, fast-running conditions, and the course plays through corridors of dunes with views across the estuary toward Wales.
The routing moves through varied terrain, with several holes playing along elevated ground and others set in lower-lying areas among the dune formations. The greens feature the subtle contours and strategic bunkering typical of Colt's work, rewarding accurate approach play and thoughtful course management. Wind from the Bristol Channel influences play throughout the round, changing the character of holes depending on conditions. The course has hosted numerous regional and national amateur championships over the decades, including English Amateur and British Amateur qualifying.
Burnham and Berrow maintains traditional links golf values, with a members' club atmosphere that has evolved over more than a century. The club also operates the shorter Channel Course, but the Championship layout remains the primary test and the venue for competitive events. The setting combines the natural beauty of the Somerset coastline with the strategic demands of golden-age links architecture.

This course was sensational. It played like a links course should and had that top 100 quality. The fairways and greens were so pure and the small details across the course from tee box markers to flags just made it sensational. The club house, pro shop, locker room all made this a great experience it really felt like we got to experience the whole club which got me is important. I would love to go back and play in the summer. I think the last couple holes heading away from the clubhouse were full but you’re met with a phenomenal par 3 at the turn which makes up for it. I think mid to high 8s is very fair for this.
