ALBANY GOLF CLUB
🇧🇸 New Providence, Nassau/Paradise Island, BS
Designed by Ernie Els

Albany Golf Club's Championship Course occupies a dramatic stretch of New Providence's southwestern coastline, where Ernie Els designed a links-inspired layout that engages directly with the Caribbean Sea. Opened in 2010 as the centerpiece of a luxury residential development, the course features seven holes along the water, with the ocean visible from nearly every point on the property. The routing takes advantage of natural elevation changes and native vegetation, incorporating the rugged limestone shoreline and prevailing trade winds into the strategic equation.
Els crafted a design that emphasizes width off the tee but demands precision on approach shots to greens protected by deep bunkering and natural waste areas. The course plays through a mix of open, windswept terrain and corridors framed by native scrub and casuarina trees. Several holes along the water's edge require carries over rocky coves and beach, while inland holes navigate rolling ground with strategic bunkering that rewards thoughtful course management. The greens are generous in size but feature subtle internal contours that complicate putting.
Albany serves as the host venue for the Hero World Challenge, an annual invitational tournament that brings together a limited field of top-ranked professionals each December. The club operates as part of a private resort community that includes marina facilities and a members-only atmosphere. The course conditioning reflects its tournament pedigree, with firm, fast playing surfaces that emphasize ground game options alongside aerial approaches.
