BRAEMAR GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Edina, MN, USA
Designed by Richard Mandell

Braemar Golf Club's Championship 18 is a municipal facility located in Edina, a first-ring suburb of Minneapolis. Designed by Richard Mandell and opened in the mid-1990s, the course serves as the centerpiece of a larger public golf complex that includes a shorter executive layout. The design occupies gently rolling terrain typical of the Twin Cities metro area, with mature hardwoods framing many holes and several ponds and wetlands coming into play throughout the routing.
Mandell's layout stretches to approximately 6,900 yards from the back tees and incorporates strategic bunkering and water hazards that require thoughtful course management. The property features elevation changes modest by Minnesota standards but sufficient to create varied stances and approach angles. Several holes play along or across wetland areas that are characteristic of the region's glacial landscape, while tree-lined corridors define playing corridors on others.
As a municipal course operated by the City of Edina, Braemar serves a broad cross-section of public golfers and hosts local amateur competitions and high school matches. The facility is part of a year-round recreation complex that includes indoor ice arenas and other amenities. The Championship 18 provides a solid test of golf for players of varying abilities, with multiple tee boxes allowing for appropriate challenge levels. The course reflects the practical, accessible character of upper-Midwest public golf while maintaining conditioning standards that attract regular play from the metro area's substantial golfing population.
Reviews
The busiest golf course in the state of Minnesota. They have two leagues a day, five days a week. The course routing isn’t anything to write home about. A little ho-hum and the back nine has all the intrigue. Greens are secretly diabolical though. The 13th is too quirky, but you can’t get rid of it.
Underrated and overcrowded. One of the nicest places to practice, public or private, in the area.
The Edina residents have taken over, good luck getting a tee time. A public track that is basically private nowadays. The course is solid, if unspectacular. A couple bad holes on the back nine but enjoyable nonetheless
