THE LINKS AT CHALLEDON
🇺🇸 Mount Airy, MD, USA
Designed by Brian Ault

The Links at Challedon occupies rolling terrain in Mount Airy, a town in the piedmont region of north-central Maryland, roughly equidistant between Baltimore and Frederick. Designed by Brian Ault and opened in the late 1990s, the course takes its name from the thoroughbred racehorse Challedon, a Maryland-bred champion who won Horse of the Year honors in 1939 and 1940. The property reflects the agricultural character common to this part of Carroll County, with the routing working across open meadowland and through stands of mature hardwoods.
Ault, a Mid-Atlantic architect whose portfolio includes numerous daily-fee and semi-private courses in Maryland and neighboring states, shaped Challedon to accommodate a range of skill levels while incorporating the natural movement of the land. The layout features elevation changes that provide variety in shot-making and sightlines, with several holes playing along ridgelines or down into valleys. Water comes into play on a handful of holes, typically in the form of ponds or small streams that cross fairways or guard greens.
The course serves as a public-access facility, drawing players from the Baltimore-Washington corridor as well as local residents. Its location along the I-70 corridor makes it a convenient option for golfers traveling between metropolitan areas or seeking courses in the Maryland piedmont. The design emphasizes playability for everyday golfers while offering enough length and strategic interest to challenge more accomplished players.
