CEDAR CREST PARK GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Dallas, TX, USA
Designed by A .W. Tillinghast
Born in the era of groundbreaking opportunities for African American golfers, Cedar Crest stands as a testament to challenging both racial barriers and golfers alike. Nestled in the heart of South Dallas, the parkland-style course, carved from gently rolling Texas terrain, presents a classic test with tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers. While not exceedingly long by modern standards, Cedar Crest subtly favors those who can shape the ball, demanding thoughtful approaches into its subtly contoured greens.
Designed in the late 1920s, by the legendary A.W. Tillinghast, Cedar Crest's layout reflects the Golden Age philosophy of strategic play. A 2018 renovation by Tripp Davis refreshed the course while honoring Tillinghast's original vision. The course famously hosted the 1954 PGA Tour's Dallas Open, won by none other than a young, up and coming Charlie Sifford - a victory that resonated far beyond the fairways and has cemented its place in the lore of the game.
Though it may not currently be found on any global lists, Cedar Crest maintains an unwavering status as an important site for a diverse collection of golfers. Cedar Crest remains a reminder of golf's evolving, and ultimately inclusive, story.
For those who know, the small brick building near the first tee serves up some of the best smoked links in Dallas, a taste of Texas tradition that perfectly complements a round at this historic landmark.
Reviews
Great old school classic routing! Loved it!
Cedar is a great course with rolling fairways, downtown views, and
Hard to say anything back about the A.W. Tillinghast course. Layout is great, conditions are good, price is solid. Really can’t ask for much more from a muni. Hidden gem. Not on the public apps so lesser known means you can actually get a decent tee time.
This course has such good bones (Tillinghast design) if they put some money into it. Superior plot of land imo to the other Dallas Tilly, Brook Hollow
