CASTLEKNOCK GOLF CLUB
🇮🇪 Castleknock, Dublin, IE
Designed by Jonathan Gaunt, Steve Marnoch
Castleknock Golf Club occupies parkland in the western suburbs of Dublin, approximately eight kilometers from the city center. The course was designed by Jonathan Gaunt and Steve Marnoch and opened in 1994 on the grounds of the historic Castleknock estate, which includes the ruins of a 12th-century Norman castle that gives the club its name. The design takes advantage of mature woodland and natural elevation changes across the property, creating a parkland layout that incorporates both open and tree-lined corridors.
The routing moves through varied terrain, with several holes playing along ridgelines that offer views across the Dublin landscape. Water features come into play on multiple holes, and the designers incorporated the existing topography to create strategic interest without excessive earthmoving. The course measures over 6,800 yards from the championship tees and presents a test suitable for competitive play while remaining accessible from forward positions.
Castleknock has hosted numerous national and regional amateur competitions and serves as a venue for Irish golf events. The club operates as a members' facility with visitor access available, and the clubhouse provides dining and social amenities in keeping with Irish golf club traditions. The proximity to Dublin makes it a convenient parkland option for both residents and traveling golfers exploring courses in the greater Dublin area.
