LAHINCH GOLF CLUB
🇮🇪 Lahinch, Clare, IE
Designed by Alister Mackenzie

Lahinch Golf Club, perched on the edge of the Atlantic in County Clare, is Ireland's quintessential links experience, born of a landscape where the sea whispers tales of golfing origins. Originally laid out by Old Tom Morris in 1894, and later refined by Alister MacKenzie, the course's rumpled fairways and towering dunes are a testament to nature's enduring power. The unpredictable winds whipping off Liscannor Bay often dictate the strategy, favoring players who can shape shots and embrace the ground game. Expect blind shots and devilish undulations; here, luck and imagination are often as vital as skill.
This wild terrain, though, is hallowed ground in Irish golf. Lahinch has long tested the mettle of amateurs and professionals alike, hosting the South of Ireland Amateur Championship since 1895, a proving ground for generations of Irish golfing talent. Its reputation, however, extends beyond national borders. It is a course spoken of in reverent tones wherever links golf is cherished.
Beyond the challenge, Lahinch offers a unique camaraderie. Stories swirl of spontaneous matches and post-round revelry fueled by Guinness and the shared experience of battling the elements. The clubhouse, a welcoming haven, has witnessed countless tales of golfing triumph and near-misses. And while the golf is serious, the spirit is light; it's a place where friendships are forged in the crucible of competition, a welcome reprieve from the pressures of the modern world.
Reviews
Lovely walk after the round at Lahinch. Some surprises abound, and it’s trickier than it appears.
The locals were saying that if the old course wasn’t on the other side of the road it would be a top top tier course in Ireland and they aren’t wrong. Has a nice charm, short unconventional routing but another course that’s just pure class. You’re really missing out not playing both while you’re there. Especially for €60
