THE HOMESTEAD
🇺🇸 Hot Springs, VA, USA
Designed by William S. Flynn
Cascades at The Homestead whispers of a bygone era when golf course architecture respected the land's natural contours above all else. Nestled in the Allegheny Mountains of Hot Springs, Virginia, the course is a testament to the Golden Age of design. The course favors strategic shot-making over sheer power, as it bends through mature forests with subtly undulating fairways and deceptively challenging green complexes.
Originally designed by William S. Flynn, Cascades reflects his philosophy of working with the existing landscape. The routing dances along the slopes, presenting panoramic views while testing a player's ability to manage elevation changes and navigate tree-lined corridors. Flynn’s design has remained largely unmolested, making it a course where strategy and precision are at a premium.
While Cascades hasn't hosted major professional championships, it holds a distinguished position as a respected test of golf in the Mid-Atlantic region. The club's rich history and commitment to preserving the integrity of Flynn's design make it a favorite among traditionalists. It’s a place where the echoes of hickory shafts and gutta-percha balls still resonate.
Reviews
The Cascades course at the Omni Homestead is a wonderful, classic mountain golf course. Golden age architecture is my favorite type of architecture and the Cascades is no different. The routing flows great through the valley with more elevation change on the front compared to the back. The closing stretch of par 3-5-5-3 is awesome. This is a true bucket list course and worthy of its top 40 public ranking in most publications.
