CAMERON HOUSE RESORT
🏴 Balloch, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland
Designed by Doug Carrick
Carrick at Cameron House Resort sits on the western shore of Loch Lomond in West Dunbartonshire, occupying elevated ground that overlooks Scotland's most famous loch and the surrounding Highlands. Canadian architect Doug Carrick designed the course, which opened in 2007 as part of the resort's expansion. The layout makes extensive use of the property's natural topography, with significant elevation changes throughout the round and views across the water toward Ben Lomond and the Trossachs.
The routing moves through varied terrain that includes woodland, open moorland, and rocky outcrops characteristic of the loch's shoreline geography. Several holes play along ridgelines or descend toward lower ground, creating dramatic shifts in perspective and requiring careful club selection on approach shots. The design incorporates natural rock formations and native vegetation, with heather, gorse, and Scots pine framing many holes. Water features beyond the loch itself appear on several holes, adding strategic considerations to what is already a demanding test of accuracy and course management.
Cameron House operates as a luxury resort with extensive lodging, spa facilities, and dining options that cater to both golf and leisure visitors. The property has a long history as an estate on Loch Lomond, and the modern resort development preserves aspects of that heritage while serving an international clientele. Carrick provides the resort's championship-length golf offering, complementing the older Wee Demon course on the property and giving guests access to golf in one of Scotland's most scenic settings.
