CARMEL VALLEY RANCH RESORT
🇺🇸 Carmel, CA, USA
Designed by Pete Dye

Carmel Valley Ranch's layout, carved into the rolling hills of its namesake valley, presents a resort course with character forged by its setting. Originally designed by Pete Dye in the early 1980s, the course was later reimagined by the renowned architect, Jeffrey D. Brauer. The terrain here is distinctly Californian – sun-drenched hillsides, dotted with mature oaks and framed by the Santa Lucia Mountains. Play here involves navigating strategically placed bunkers and water hazards, rewarding thoughtful shot placement rather than brute force. A notable feature is the elevation change on many holes, requiring careful club selection and an ability to manage uphill and downhill lies.
While not a frequent host of major championships, Carmel Valley Ranch is a favored venue for regional and local tournaments. The club cultivates a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. It’s a place where locals enjoy the course and the natural beauty of the valley.
Beyond the golf, Carmel Valley Ranch is known for its unique, almost ranch-like atmosphere, complete with equestrian facilities and a distinctly Californian sense of casual elegance.
The Ranch, as it’s known, has become a destination for those seeking a golf experience wrapped in the tranquility and sunshine that define Carmel Valley. A strong contingent of locals and repeat visitors make for a congenial membership known to enjoy both the sporting and social aspects of the club.
Reviews
Absolute gem of track in the greater Monterey Peninsula. If you’re not queued up for any of the bigger name tracks in the area, this is an absolute must. Course conditions were phenomenal, and the course got stronger and stronger by the holes (views, challenging, consistency, all the rest). Highly recommend and by far the best value proposition for golf in Monterey
