CAPE SKIRRING GOLF CLUB
🇸🇳 Kabrousse, Basse Casamance, SN
Designed by Robert Berthet
Cape Skirring Golf Club occupies a distinctive position along Senegal's southern Atlantic coast in the Casamance region, an area known for its tropical climate, palm-fringed beaches, and cultural distance from the capital Dakar. French architect Robert Berthet designed the course to work with the coastal terrain, incorporating the natural vegetation and sandy soils characteristic of this part of West Africa. The layout takes advantage of ocean breezes and views while navigating through stands of coconut palms, cashew trees, and indigenous scrub that define the Casamance landscape.
The course serves both the local resort community and visiting golfers drawn to this relatively remote corner of Senegal. The routing reflects the constraints and opportunities of coastal golf in a tropical setting, where drainage, vegetation management, and exposure to salt air shape maintenance and playability. The sandy subsoil provides firm conditions during the dry season, while the rainy months bring lush growth and softer turf.
Cape Skirring represents one of the few golf facilities in Senegal outside the Dakar area, offering a different experience from the more established courses near the capital. The club caters to a mix of international tourists visiting the nearby beach resorts and expatriate residents. The setting emphasizes the natural beauty of the Casamance coastline rather than elaborate infrastructure, with the golf experience shaped as much by the regional environment and relative isolation as by the design itself.
