CAPE MAY NATIONAL GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Cape May, NJ, USA
Designed by Karl Litten, R. Mullock
Cape May National Golf Club occupies a distinctive setting at the southern tip of New Jersey, where the peninsula meets the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay. Designed by Karl Litten, the course opened in the late 1990s as part of a residential community development in the Cape May Court House area. The layout takes advantage of the region's coastal plain topography, featuring relatively flat terrain punctuated by natural wetlands, tidal marshes, and stands of native vegetation that define the playing corridors and strategic options.
The routing incorporates the environmental characteristics common to southern New Jersey's barrier island region, with several holes playing alongside or across wetland areas that require careful course management. Water hazards and forced carries appear throughout the design, rewarding accurate shot-making while penalizing wayward attempts. The course serves both resort visitors drawn to Cape May's historic Victorian seaside character and local members from the surrounding communities.
Cape May National functions as a semi-private facility, welcoming public play while maintaining a membership base. The club provides a full-service golf experience in a region better known for its beaches and historic preservation than its golf offerings. The course represents one of the more substantial modern golf developments in Cape May County, offering a championship-length test in an area where golf infrastructure remains relatively limited compared to other Jersey Shore destinations.
