Canyon/Loblolly at RTJ Golf Trail at Cambrian Ridge

The Canyon and Loblolly nines at Cambrian Ridge form one of three 18-hole combinations at this Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail facility in Greenville, Alabama. Opened in 1993, the property was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. with Roger Rulewich and represents one of the original sites in the Trail system, which was created to promote golf tourism and economic development across Alabama. The facility sits on rolling terrain in the state's southern coastal plain, where the natural topography provides more movement than typical for the region.

The Canyon nine takes its name from the dramatic elevation changes and ravine features that characterize several holes, with routing that moves through wooded corridors and across significant grade shifts. Water hazards appear on multiple holes, a signature element of Jones's design philosophy throughout the Trail properties. The Loblolly nine references the loblolly pine that dominates much of the forested landscape, with holes carved through these native stands. Both nines feature the expansive bunkering, large undulating greens, and strategic design principles associated with Jones's later work.

Cambrian Ridge offers 27 holes total, with the Sherling nine completing the facility. The courses are maintained as a public-access property within the Trail network, making championship-caliber design available at modest rates. The combination of terrain variety, length from the back tees, and Jones's architectural approach provides a test that differs notably from the flatter geography found at many Alabama courses.
