CANEBRAKE COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Hattiesburg, MS, USA
Designed by Jerry Pate

Canebrake Country Club sits in the pine-forested landscape of southern Mississippi, approximately five miles north of Hattiesburg. Designed by Jerry Pate and opened in the late 1990s, the course reflects the work of the former U.S. Open champion who transitioned to golf course architecture after his playing career. Pate, who won the 1976 U.S. Open at Atlanta Athletic Club, brought a player's perspective to his design work, creating courses throughout the Southeast that emphasize strategic shot-making and playability across different skill levels.
The routing takes advantage of the region's rolling terrain and incorporates the natural pine forests and wetland areas characteristic of the Longleaf Pine belt. Water features come into play on several holes, and the layout typically offers a mix of risk-reward opportunities and straightforward holes that reward accuracy over distance. The course serves as the centerpiece of a residential community, with the design integrating housing while maintaining a sense of seclusion on many holes.
Canebrake functions as a private country club serving the Hattiesburg area, providing both golf and social amenities for its membership. The facility includes practice areas and a clubhouse that serves as a gathering place for members. The course represents one of the more established championship-length layouts in the Pine Belt region of Mississippi, offering year-round golf in a climate that supports extended playing seasons.
