CALUSA PINES GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Naples, FL, USA
Designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan
Calusa Pines is a study in manufactured drama amidst the flatlands of North Naples, a daring reimagining of Florida’s golfing landscape. This modern marvel, crafted by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, rejects the region's natural repose, injecting dramatic elevation changes and strategic undulations into what was once an arrow-straight expanse of land. Its personality is distinct.
The course demands power and precision, rewarding bold play with strategic advantage. Water hazards are minimal, putting the onus on the golfer to navigate the rumpled fairways and challenging green complexes. Calusa Pines is known for its firm, fast conditions, encouraging a ground game and demanding creative shot-making. It's the kind of place where a well-placed drive can set up an easy birdie, while a misstep might find you scrambling for par.
While not a stop on the professional tour circuit, Calusa Pines enjoys a national profile as a challenging test and a haven for serious golfers. Its membership is known for its low handicap index and dedication to the game. The culture is built around a deep respect for golf's traditions and an appreciation for strategic course design.
Adding to the club's unique identity is the lore surrounding its development – the sheer volume of earth moved to create its dramatic contours. A final interesting note is the club's culinary reputation which boasts what some argue to be one of Florida's finest cheeseburgers.
Reviews
Calusa Pines is a fantastic club! First thing we noticed was the clubhouse/locker room looking and feeling totally old school while the club is very new school. Presented a great vibe. Pro shop was stocked with all of the best brands colors and gear. Course itself was really interesting and fun. Holes moved both ways with good length and shot variety. Greens were amazing. Soft and receptive for approach shots while playing fast and true on putts. Some very good green complexes with 18 maybe my favorite. Mounds everywhere to make getting up and down a tough finisher up by the clubhouse. Short par 4 8th was my favorite hole on the course with an entire beach along the left side. Aesthetically beautiful with crisp pristine playing conditions. Evens at The Shack with a good solid country club pour was great.
I’m all in on this track. Holes are well designed and strike a nice balance of fairness. The course design and conditioning is well complemented by a world class on site experience with cabins, lit putting green, private chefs to cook steaks, etc. Locker room is cash money and the no-menu breakfast is always a nice touch.
