BUFFALO RUN GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Commerce City, CO, USA
Designed by Keith Foster

Buffalo Run Golf Course opened in 1996 on reclaimed land northeast of Denver, designed by Keith Foster. The property sits on what was once a landfill and industrial site, transformed into a links-style layout that takes advantage of the high plains terrain and expansive views of the Front Range. The course occupies rolling ground with minimal tree cover, allowing wind to play a significant role in the challenge. Foster routed the holes to incorporate natural elevation changes and created strategic bunkering that emphasizes ground game options alongside aerial approaches.
The design features wide fairways and large, undulating greens that reward thoughtful positioning and course management. Several holes play along or across wetland areas that were integrated into the reclamation process, adding both ecological value and strategic interest. The exposed setting and firm conditions typical of Colorado's semi-arid climate give the course a links character uncommon in the American interior. Fescue grasses frame many playing corridors, and the absence of housing or commercial development preserves sightlines across the property.
Buffalo Run operates as a public facility managed by the City of Commerce City, making it accessible to a broad range of golfers in the Denver metropolitan area. The course has hosted various regional amateur competitions and remains a popular daily-fee option for players seeking a challenging layout with distinctive terrain. Its transformation from industrial use to recreational space represents an early example of adaptive land reuse in American golf course development.
Reviews
This course could be great if it was a little bit better conditioned. Great course to play in the winter when everything is dead regardless.
