Buenavista occupies dramatic terrain on the northwestern tip of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, designed by Severiano Ballesteros and opened in 2003. The course sits on volcanic slopes beneath Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak, with the Atlantic Ocean forming a constant backdrop along the northern holes. Ballesteros routed the layout across steep elevation changes and natural lava formations, incorporating the rugged topography into a design that demands strategic thinking and precise shot-making.

The front nine plays primarily along elevated plateaus with ocean views, while the back nine descends toward the coast before climbing back inland. Several holes feature significant elevation changes from tee to green, and the volcanic rock outcroppings that punctuate the property come into play as both hazards and visual markers. The prevailing trade winds add complexity to club selection and shot shaping throughout the round.

The course reflects Ballesteros's preference for strategic variety over penal design, offering multiple routes on many holes while rewarding creative shotmaking. Wide fairways provide landing areas, but the approach shots to elevated or contoured greens require accuracy. The setting in Buenavista del Norte places the course in one of Tenerife's less developed regions, where the landscape retains much of its natural volcanic character and the climate supports year-round play typical of the Canary Islands.
