BROOMIEKNOWE GOLF CLUB
🏴 Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, Scotland
Designed by Ben Sayers, James Braid
Broomieknowe Golf Club sits on elevated ground above Bonnyrigg in Midlothian, approximately eight miles south of Edinburgh. The course was originally laid out by Ben Sayers in 1905, with subsequent modifications by James Braid, whose involvement helped shape the routing that exists today. The land occupies a hillside position that provides views across the Midlothian countryside and toward the Pentland Hills.
The layout measures just over 6,000 yards from the back tees and plays as a parkland course with a mix of open and tree-lined holes. The terrain features natural elevation changes that influence both strategy and club selection throughout the round. Several holes move across sloping ground, and the greens reflect the undulating character of the site. The design requires accurate approach play, as many putting surfaces are raised or contoured in ways that reject poorly struck shots.
Broomieknowe has served as a venue for regional amateur competitions and remains an active member club with a traditional Scottish golf culture. The clubhouse, which dates from the early twentieth century, maintains a straightforward atmosphere typical of clubs established in that era. The course is accessible to visitors by arrangement and offers a representative example of inland Scottish golf from the period when Sayers and Braid were shaping courses across the country.
