BOBBY JONES GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Sarasota, FL, USA
Designed by Donald Ross

Bobby Jones Golf Club, nestled in the heart of Sarasota, Florida, stands as a testament to accessible golf and enduring civic legacy. The original 18 holes, a product of the Golden Age of golf architecture, were conceived by Donald Ross in 1927 to be a demanding but fair test. The terrain, largely flat with subtle undulations, is classic Florida parkland—live oaks frame many fairways, rewarding strategic play rather than sheer power.
The club is named for the legendary Bobby Jones, who himself took part in the course's opening ceremony. In 2022, after a period of decline, a $14 million renovation led by Richard Mandell restored the original Ross routing while incorporating modern sustainability practices. The routing was tweaked to include a new driving range.
While Bobby Jones Golf Club hasn’t hosted major championships, it remains a beloved municipal course that offers a classic golf experience to the local community. Notable is the club's commitment to affordable golf, reflecting the spirit of its namesake, who championed the amateur game and accessibility. It’s a place where generations of Sarasota golfers have honed their skills, fostering a deep sense of local pride.
